The Blue Book. No, not a record of auto values or the little test booklets that we used to fill out for writing tests in elementary school. My Blue Book. See, I do a lot of cooking, and that usually involves looking up a lot of different recipes and trying things out. I started to notice that after time, several recipes would begin to get committed to memory or I ended up refining something that turned out great every time. A few things that come to mind are homemade Greek yogurt, roast chickens and turkeys, gravy, and chicken stock to name a few. I got to a point where I felt like I should start writing each of these down because they never change and often times I just need a quick refresher on the “how much” and “how long” of a recipe.
So, enter the Blue Book. I went searching around our office and found an unopened moleskin notebook. Right when I saw it, I thought, “That looks like something my kids could open to find some old recipes.” With that, I knew it was the one.
The Blue Book is a physical thing, but also a concept. When I feel a recipe is good enough that I want to do the exact same thing again, I write it in the Blue Book. This also gives me a perfect addition to the website–a series or category developed to document my journey in filling the Blue Book.
So that’s it. Stay tuned. I have a few good recipes that I have a plan for and the rest will be as I stumble upon ones worth sharing. Come along with me as we fill the Blue Book.
